Northside Neighborhood Center
Artist's rendering of the Northside Neighborhood Center, the Tudor Revival brick building at 1552 Kane Street, at dusk

Our community's living room.

The City of La Crosse selected our proposal for the former North Community Library at 1552 Kane Street. We're turning it into a free place to go: no membership, no cost, no reason required.

A place to see the people you live near

You don't go there to read. You don't go there for a meeting, though you could. You go there to see your neighbors. Free, always: no membership, no fee, no reservation. For everyone: a seven-year-old doing homework, a retiree with a newspaper, a remote worker who has run out of walls to look at. In a building worth saving: Tudor Revival brick, built in 1942, structurally sound, and standing empty. It doesn't have to go dark.

What's going inside

Fine arts & performance

A music room and a performance room downstairs, and studio space upstairs, restoring arts access the Northside lost.

Northside history

A place where this neighborhood's own story is kept, displayed, and added to by the families who live it.

Enrichment & gathering

A children's reading room, affordable desks for people who work alone, and flexible space any neighbor can use.

Community wellness

Health and financial education in the evenings and on weekends, when working families can actually get to it.

Fall 2026: Agreement and closing. The development agreement goes to the Common Council, then we close, design and permit.

Underway

2027: Doors open. Construction early in the year, then a free place to go for the whole community.
